Lash Out! Dior Diorshow versus Covergirl Lashblast Mascara
Carley Martin - Beauty  Posted Wednesday, September 14, 2011 by ,

Say what? There is a $9.00 mascara that rivals a $25.00 mascara? Even though it sounds too good to be true, Covergirl’s LastBlash is an affordable mascara that rivals the famous Diorshow mascara.  Don’t believe me? Just look at these gorgeous lashes!  Let’s break it down.

When I was working as a makeup artist at Sephora, Diorshow was the most popular and requested mascara because it was one of the first mascara’s to really bulk up the lashes without clumping.  The lashes looked longer, thicker, and curled. It’s a build-able formula, and the brush is over-sized.  So what’s my beef? The large brush made it difficult to reach the inner and outer lashes, and the tube of mascara seemed to dry out after two weeks!  So here is this “magic” mascara with silver Dior logo gleaming in the light and I already had to buy a new tube within the month. Mind you, I go through mascara very quickly because I LOVE big lashes.   I heard a tip to run warm water over the tube to slightly emulsify the product thus allowing a few more applications, but that’s too much work. Over it!

And then there was Lashblast.  Little did I know of it’s reputation at the time, but it turns out the mascara has a cult following similar to Diorshow.  What the heck, I decided to try the $8 mascara because what’s the worst that could happen?  The bright orange thick tube wasn’t as pretty as the Diorshow packaging, but what mama taught you was right – it’s what’s on the inside that counts!  The formula is slightly slicker and more wet, and the brush was big, but the bristles are short and firm, so you can really coat every lash.  Lashes bulk up without clumping, and you can layer 2 -3 coats to give you the false eyelash appearance.  It doesn’t flake, and stays on perfectly throughout the night. The best part is, it washes off easily with gentle face wash.

So that’s that – I’m hooked on Covergirl Lashblast.  Diorshow might be a splurge worth having everyone once in a while, but my new staple is Lashblast.  It will be my go-to mascara for years to come.
