Amika has a reputation for designing heat styling tools decked out in cheeky and fun prints – and more recently, a line of nutrient-rich hair care products. I’m usually testing makeup for beauty reviews, so it’s not everyday that I fall for a haircare product. But after receiving the deluxe-sized sample of Amika Obliphica Oil Treatment in my Birchbox, I fell head over heels.
Obliphica – which is otherwise known as sea buckthorn berry – has for centuries been renowned for its healing powers. It has an arsenal of antioxidants, vitamins, healthy fatty acids, omega 3′s, and the rare Omega 7, which is usually only found in fish oil. These potent vitamins combined with the powerful properties of Moroccan argan nut oil form a blend that replenishes, moisturizes, and helps balance your hair’s natural oils. As a bonus, Amika’s formulations are all paraben-free. And the scent of the obliphica is so delicious, I actually began to wear the hair oil as a perfume!
I’ve worn my hair both curly and straight with the oil treatment. On damp hair, I applied and finger-combed through the oil to hold the shape of my natural curls and add shine. You can form ringlets by simply putting a round of the oil in in your hands, rubbing them together, and then using your index finger as a curling iron of sorts to twirl a banana curl. When blow drying my hair straight, I applied the oils to the ends for a smoother look that also nourished my strands as a final finish step. The versatile thing about a hair oil is that you can apply it to either damp or dry hair, depending on your styling needs.
The Amika Oil Treatment retails for $34, and can be purchased on www.loveamika.com – where you can also catch some how-to instructional videos.
