While many hairstyles are considered timeless and classic, most hair trends usually burst onto the scene and disappear just as quickly. Lucky for us, it seems this year’s Spring/Summer trends are transitioning beautifully into Fall’s looks.
Hair is a tricky thing; long-haired vixens always toy with the idea of chopping their mane into a bob, and short-haired gals pine for longer locks. Brunette, blonde, red…what color will you switch to next? Curly today or Straight? With so many options, we usually give up and end up wearing our hair the same way almost every day. But for those extra-motivated days when we want to try something new and fresh, there’s one surefire place to find some inspiration: the runway.
Behold, a quick compilation of the chic hairstyles we’ve been seeing all over the runways so far this year, and how you can incorporate them into your Fall ensembles.
Braids are one of those great hairstyles that never really look outdated, and they are especially on trend right now. This year’s version is soft, messy and carefree. Emilio Pucci , Rag and Bone, and Nanette Lepore models all sported this boho chic look during the Summer and Pre-Fall collections. Try updating the look by using a low, loose fishtail technique…try two braids for added volume and wow factor!
The topknot/bun trend has been going strong for a while now, but this simple modification makes it more casual and fresh for the next season. Simply start your braid at the nape of your neck – it’s usually easiest to hold your head upside down- and french braid all the way up to the very top of your head, or wherever you want to place your bun. This is easier than it sounds. Next, wrap the rest of your hair into a bun or knot, as messy or polished as you like. This one is our current fave!
If braids are still a little too time-consuming for you, or if you don’t know how to braid and your friends aren’t there to lend a hand, try one of the most chic and easy styles for 2011, the double-knot pony. Seen all over the Michael Kors runway, this style is definitely ready to wear and very street friendly. Gather hair at the nape of your neck and separate into two low ponies. Tie (just like shoelaces) and then tie again, forming a knot. Add some bobbies and hairspray to keep your knot lookin good all day! For a more detailed how-to, visit this nifty site.
