A collaboration between esthetician Shizuka Bernstein and her dermatologist husband, Dr. Robert Bernstein, this soothing spa marries eastern and western techniques for a service menu replete with unique facials, massages, nail services and body wraps. Facial therapies offer light technology, like anti-aging LED and IPL beams. A full offering of depilation modes includes laser hair removal, waxing, electrolysis and a combo electrolysis-laser option.
One service in particular has gained the otherwise minimalist spa infamy: a so-called “bird poop” Geisha facial that is adored by former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. Costing $180 for 60 minutes, the treatment uses traditional and natural Japanese ingredients to replenish and reawaken skin. The star ingredient is uguisu no fun – translation: powdered nightingale droppings – a beauty secret long used by geishas to clarify skin. It’s the brightening enzymes and guanine naturally found in the droppings that are credited for casting a glowing radiance on the complexion. The droppings are made hygenic for facial use through a sterilization process that includes ultraviolet light heating before the ingredient is texturized into a fine, light powder. The facialist then blends the powder with Japanese rice bran to further intensify its exfoliationg properties. A deep cleansing, pore extraction, hydrating camelia oil massage and antioxidant green tea collagen mask completes the one-of-a-kind treatment.
